Phylis Johnson, PhD, Associate Professor who spent 25 years broadcasting in Philadelphia, Houston, and St. Louis, to name a few markets. Specifically, she’s been director of news, production, and programming, general manager of a noncommercial station, and on-air talent. She has published a book on the fringe media culture, journal articles and chapters, and presented nationally and internationally on radio, sound studies, and more recently new media. Dr. Phyl is an avid participant in the virtual community, Second Life, and has been invited by the international New Media Consortium to write an article on the state of new media advertising. Most significantly, she hung out with Willie Nelson and his dog in the 80s – for about 30 minutes.
