Biography

Paul Torre, PhD, Assistant Professor. Dr. Torre received his MA and PhD from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. His teaching and research on the Media Industries explores entertainment industry structures and practices, media regulations and policies, the interplay between U.S. and global media markets, and how new technologies are shaping the media business models of the future. Dr. Torre’s entertainment industry experience includes positions in film and television development, production, distribution, marketing and publicity. He served as Vice President of Programming and Production for the German media conglomerate KirchMedia, and worked in Hollywood with the major studios, managing television co-productions and arranging for marketing and distribution in Europe. He has an article in the Journal of Television and New Media on intersections between global television distribution and media policy; he has a chapter in a Routledge Press volume on global television formats; he has co-authored a chapter with Eileen Meehan on markets for global television in Blackwell’s Handbook of Political Economy of Communications; and he has contributed a chapter on the global battle over satellite television in Germany for Rutgers Press. Current projects include work on film financing and multi-platform distribution, the gaming industry, and the business strategies of Disney Channels Worldwide.
