Novotny Lawrence, PhD, Assistant Professor received his PhD from the Department of Theatre and Film at the University of Kansas in 2004. He is an assistant professor of race, media, and popular culture and has taught classes such as Media in Society, and the History of African-American Images in Film and Television. Dr. Lawrence has presented papers focusing on race and representation at national conferences such as the Popular Culture Association Conference and the Society for Cinema and Media Studies conference. His other research endeavors include encyclopedia entries, publications in scholarly journals, and the forthcoming book The Black Exploitation Films of the 1970s: Blackness and genre.
