Biography

Jim Gee, TV News Director, spends most of his day working the newsroom along with the students who produce River Region Evening Edition, SIUC’s nationally-recognized television news program. In 2007, they were named “Best News Team” by the Broadcast Educators Association. He also teaches news writing in the Department of Radio-Television.

He joined SIUC in 2006 after three years as news director at WCIA-TV in Champaign, IL. While there, his news team was honored with several awards including first place for best live news coverage in 2006 from the Illinois Broadcasters Association. He also worked at television stations in Richmond, Virginia, Cadillac, Michigan, and Peoria, Illinois. He has served as a newscast producer, assignment editor, assistant news director, and website manager. Jim served as vice president of the Illinois News Broadcasters Association for two years, and is now the President of the Illinois News Broadcasters Association. He helps organize conventions for the state’s professional and student journalists. He holds a B.S. in Communication from Illinois State University.
