Biography

Jeff Williams is Station Manager and News & Public Affairs Director for WSIU Public Radio at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Jeff has 18-years of radio and television news experience including small, medium and network markets. Jeffís experience includes morning and afternoon news anchor/reporter, state capitol correspondent, political reporter, courts reporter, city beat reporter, health reporter, television newscast producer, and television news general assignment reporter/anchor. Jeff was also an assistant desk editor at National Public Radio during the Persian Gulf War in 1991. Jeff is a graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale and attended the Washington Center for Politics & Journalism. In the past eight years Jeff has helped train nearly 300 undergraduate broadcast news students at SIU-C in the field of radio news reporting/radio documentary. Jeffís newsroom training focuses on providing students with a comprehensive understanding of Federal, State and Municipal government and its organizational structure and function as it applies to daily news, yearly elections, and other special coverage. Newsroom instruction also includes emphasis on National Public Radio, Radio Television News Directorís Association and Associated Press Best Practices and Journalism Ethics. Jeffís newsroom curriculum also provides a broad background in reporting on the judiciary including criminal and civil court structure and process along with the Open Meetings Act and Freedom of Information Act. Jeff is a contributing reporter for Illinois Public Radio, the Illinois Radio Network, the Associated Press, and National Public Radio.
