Jacob J. Podber, MFA, PhD, Associate Professor, and author of The Electronic Front Porch: An Oral History of the Arrival of Modern Media in Rural Appalachia and the Melungeon Community, which was the winner of the 2008 Ray and Pat Browne Literary Book Award for the Best Focused Study in Popular and American Culture. His research as appeared in several leading media journals and books including the Journal of Radio & Audio Media, Global Media Journal, Media History, Journal of Kentucky Studies, and the book Global Media Studies: Ethnographic Perspectives. He was recently awarded a fellowship at Berea College in Berea, KY. Dr. Podber has won several awards, including the 2006 New Faculty Research Grant Award from the Broadcast Education Association, the Outstanding Dissertation of the Year Award from the Broadcast Education, the Carl A. Ross Paper of the Year Award from the Appalachian Studies Association, and the Top Paper Award from the Broadcast Education Association Broadcast & Internet Radio Division. Dr. Podber teaches courses in Oral History and Media, Media and Society, and Television History and Criticism.
