The newsroom subscribes to Associated Press, the Illinois Radio Network, and the Illinois Public Radio Network. WSIU/WUSI-FM contributes stories to all three news services as well as to National Public Radio on a limited basis. The newsroom creates 13 local newscasts daily and on Saturday mornings. News production includes spot news and in-depth reporting, from live coverage to documentaries. The WSIU/WUSI-FM news production facilities support the largest radio news staff in the region, and recipients of numerous awards for radio news and documentaries.

The WSIU offices and studios are located in the Communications Building on the campus of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois, USA.
